12 Tamil Movies We Are Looking Out For In 2017

upcoming tamil movies 2017

2017 could turn out one of the best years for Tamil movies. It’s lined up with mass entertainers (Enthiran 2) as well as several intriguing indie projects from young filmmakers. Apart from those mentioned below, we might be surprised with many more, unheard of titles in the days to come (like the unexpected hit of 2016 Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru – D-16).

1. Baahubali: The Conclusion

The much-anticipated mystery behind Kattappa’s betrayal will come to light with the conclusive part of bilingual epic fantasy Baahubali. Director Rajamouli has already said that the visual extravaganza factor will be far higher than the first part. The magnum opus wound up shooting on January 6 and is all set to release April 28.

2. 2.0

Shankar’s Enthiran 2 aka 2.0 with an alleged budget of 4 billion remains on a high-octane buzz. Superstar Rajinikanth reprises the role of scientist and his genius robot Chitti, while Akshay Kumar dons the role of a villain. After lot of speculations, the shooting for the film started in January 2017. And seems all set for a Diwali release (October 18).

3. Kaatru Veliyidai

Celebrated Indian filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s action romance Kaatru Veliyidai (breezy expanse) has already generated huge frenzy among his fans. Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari respectively play the lead roles of a fighter pilot and doctor. The shooting in Ladakh and snow-capped mountains of Belgrade generated reports that it might deal with the themes of terrorism. But the team mostly denies such reports with Ratnam calling it a beautiful love story. Kaatru Veliyidai is all set to release in the first week of April.

4. Vivegam

Ajith Kumar-starrer Vivegam’s (Wisdom) first look on social media is a huge hit, as expected. Ajith, with his chiseled physique, plays an Interpol officer. Shot across key locations in Bulgaria and Slovenia, this high-voltage action film is anticipated to release by June. Akshara Haasan, Vivek Oberoi and Kajal Agarwal play other pivotal roles.

5. Sambhavami

A R Murugadoss’ Tamil-Telugu bilingual action film was touted to be another expensive film of the year, after Baahubali and 2.0. Telugu star Mahesh Babu plays the lead role and actor/director S J Suryah an antagonist. Highly-heralded Santosh Sivan has been roped in for cinematography. The story apparently revolves around a sibling rivalry. Sambhavami may release by June last week.

6. Aneethi Kathaigal

The lukewarm commercial response for Thiyagarajan Kumararaja’s cult hit Aaranya Kaandam made the promising director wait five years for his second venture. But the wait seems worth it with Kumararaja’s Aneedhi Kathaigal (Stories of Injustice) having roped in stars like Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Fazil, and Samantha. Celebrated cinematographer P.C. Sreeram has been brought on board alongside director/writers Mysskin and Nalan Kumaraswamy, who will work as script doctors. Kumararaja promises that his new film will be as hard-hitting as his debut feature.
